Needing to keep ourselves hooked on screen without us being able to do the ‘actual work’ is really painful. I personally have been troubled by the more screen time and less productivity thing. Staying at screen for long, on one hand causes eye strain and not being able to complete the work on time on the other hand causes guilt. Hence, the vicious circle of having eye strain and guilt on regular basis have compelled me to try some ideas that actually helped me reduce my screen time and be productive at the same time.
1. Using the distracting site blocker extensions
It’s too easy to get online to look up for one thing and still find ourselves surfing for hours totally forgetting why we logged in the first place. And it becomes actually troublesome when you’re trying to complete your project, or working on a major deadline. There are many browser extensions like StayFocsd,LeechBlock which you can customize to block particular sites. This actually helps us keep the track of our time and get the real work done.
2. Keeping the phone in a place where you can’t see
We’ve been habituated to constantly checking our phone every few minutes or hours (depends on how much time we spend with our phone on a daily basis). Let’s say, you placed your phone in a place where you cannot easily reach it, may that be in another room where you usually don’t spend time on or you’d asked someone to hide it for you. Your mind now has been tricked to believe that there’s no phone around. Now whenever the urge to check your phone arises, and your mind being tricked already, the seemingly intense urge to check the phone starts fading. Don’t trust. Try once. This actually works like magic.
3. Deleting time consuming apps from your phone
I know this can be somehow difficult. However, most of the time we spend on the phone mainly revolves around social media feeds and texts. Of course, we don’t want to miss out. That makes sense. But limiting the use of social media to our laptop again tricks our brain to believe that the quick social media access is not possible. And this really help us become more productive and reduces our LOTs of screen time.
Please do not trust all these. Just give it a try. You owe your healthy eyes and well spent time.It worked for me. It may work for you as well. Have an amazing time.
